The government has today the approval of 300 new school-based nurseries. The move is part of the government’s plans to expand access to childcare, with further capacity increases expected in the coming years.

In response, Emma Balchin, Chief Executive, °ÅÀÖÊÓƵÏÂÔØapp, said:

"We are pleased to see the government's acknowledgement of the importance of early years being supported by meaningful investment. °ÅÀÖÊÓƵÏÂÔØapp share the government's view that early education is critical for life chances, breaking down barriers to opportunity, and fostering opportunities for growth, workplace inclusion, and young people’s success

However, it is essential that this expansion of places is backed up by significant investment in the workforce to ensure the highest standards in early years provision. Governing boards know that simply increasing places will not produce the intended impacts unless we have the skilled professionals to deliver this provision."
