The DfE’s Governance Handbook advises boards to evaluate themselves on a routine basis and the Academy Trust Handbook also recommends a wide programme of self assessment and improvement.

Relaunching September 2025: Self-Evaluation for Governing Boards
We’re currently updating our online self-evaluation tools and will relaunch them in September 2025 with improvements.
Regular self-evaluation is recommended by the DfE and °ÅÀÖÊÓƵÏÂÔØapp to help boards govern effectively, assure compliance, and improve outcomes for pupils.Â
